Wednesday 11th September
Gav went to work. (he's a JET ALT - assistant language teacher on the JET scheme, so works in schools helping with english stuff.) i got up and had some cereal and took about 30 mins trying to work out how to get the satellite channels on. watched anime, music and sport. hoovered. (Gav has very long hair and it gets everywhere.) had a shower. at 4.30 he came home and told me to get trousered up - we were going out on his motorbike.

so, we went to Kashima, the city next door. where some of the world cup games were played. riding on his bike was incredibly sexy. i can see how if you were riding with someone you fancied it's be even better. cos i could have sat closer, held tighter... man. we went to Kashima-jingu - the 20th most beautiful shrine in japan. it was very spacious, with lovely big buildings, huge trees. we saw a stone that is keeping a giant carp from wriggling about underground so it doesn't cause earthquakes. we drank from the natural spring and saw a very disturbing bug that hopped really too high when i poked it with a stick.
then we went to Genki Sushi. i was all excited cos novelty eating appeals to me greatly. so a conveyor belt of sushi on plates got me totally thrilled. i managed to find vegetarian plates, some with corn, aubergine, soya beans, tofu, and cucumber rolls. it was a little perturbing eating with raw octopus going by, but still. mixing my own green tea was fun. but putting the sushi into my mouth whole was not. cos i only have a little mouth and i had to chew for about 5 minutes. i also broke chopstick etiquette several times by pointing with them. bad me.
a bargainous meal for 577yen. then we went to the video store and got Rush Hour as we needed some Jackie Chan goodness. bought chocolate and beer from the Family Mart downstairs. ate, drank, watched vid and went to bed.
Thursday 12th September
More lingering about til Gav came home from work. then we took the train to Mito, to go see Gav's JET friend Neil. he's a gay australian whose voice never broke and who wears designer clothes every day. he's very nice though. we went out to eat and had okonomiyaki. this pleased me greatly as it was again a novelty eating experience. we got given ingredients - for me veg and eggs, which we mixed and then fried ourselves on the teppan (hotplate) on our table. very fun. and then painted the omelette type thing with sauce and stuff. and ate it. yum. went back to Neil's. i was very amused at seeing an advert for AON english language schools, which Ewan McGregor was in. with a cheesy grin - i took photos!! then bedtime in Neil's very small flat.
