*laughs*

Well, I can't sincerely wish that he is literally crushed. Having his mind opened a bit (possibly with forceps) would do me.

I suppose a baby elephant could stand on his toe and poo on his foot...

Mashed to a bloody pulp would suit me, all else failing.

I still have a sinking feeling that, despite the polls, Bush will be back for Four More Wars. He's only just beginning to get his election machine rolling, the Dems have had all the spotlight, and have been using it to slag Bush rather than each other, now the GOP will be in on the act with a vengeance. The Americans are planning a spring offensive in Pakistan/Afghanistan, and if they succeed in capturing OBL, as well they might, then it's game, set and match to Bush. Iraq is a running sore, but they'll probably manage enough of a transfer of power by the end of June that US casualties will be at sufficiently low levels for it not to be too much of an issue. (Iraqis will be dying by the hundreds, but that won't affect the US election). The economy is not great, jobswise, but it's growing sufficiently rapidly that it won't be anywhere near as bad as the 1992 situation that did for Bush Snr. On top of all this, there's every sign that this election will be even more rigged than the last one. They're still using highly dodgy voting equipment, and Brother Bush in Florida is still working hard to chop as many blacks of the electoral roll as possible.

Still, there is hope. Kerry is a strong candidate in many ways, he has the looks and the height (all but four US Presidential elections have gone to the taller candidate), he's got the war record, and Bush's approval ratings aren't great. A lot more hope than it looked, say, 6 months ago. But I would still be prepared for heart-crushing, mind-flaying disappointment and despair come November 5th. Actually, there is no way to prepare for that.

There's always the possibility of the Monty Python 16-ton weight falling from the sky for the literal crushing though. We live in hope.

It always amazes me how much foriegners know about US politics. It really gives one a sense of how much American foriegn policy affects the world.

As an American citizen, however, I cannot support the death of our president, no matter how much I disagree with him. Not, of course, for the reason that he's our chief executive and I'm a patriotic American citizen, but for the more pragmatic reason that if he died, the vice president, Dick "Dick" Cheney would become president. Imagine George W. Bush, then remove the people skills and shift the politics and foreign policy to the right. (Yes, this is possible)

So obviously, what's needed is a political defeat. That, or an anvil large enough to knock out the both of them, the speaker of the house, and the president pro tempore of the senate. (Which would leave us with Colin Powell, Secretary of State, as president. Not an awful option.)

Come to think of it, that would need to be a pretty large anvil.
