hmmmm
last night Miss Evans was in Zambia operating for free. it was very distressing as she operated on a young Zambian woman who had two fistulas(holes) - one from bladder to vagina and one from rectum to vagina. she had a colostomy but was incontinent. and when Miss Evans investigated she decided the fistulas were beyond repair. it's because the girl was married very young and was pregnant before her pelvis was developed and so was damaged from a three day labour (and the baby died anyway.) her husband divorced her because having a baby who dies is a sign of a bad wife.
so Miss Evans made a new bladder from part of the girl's colon, but had trouble because the girl was also a Jehovah's Witness so wouldn't have any blood. the appendix was used to make a tube from the pouch to the abdomen so the girl could self catheterise.
and then at the end of the programme they said the girl died from post operative complications.
naughty naughty men marrying girls too young and then leaving them unable to lead anywhere near normal lives. grrrrr. i'm sure there's some African fistula charity somewhere. i should look.
